Where we might walk

Dog walks around Middleton.

A few of the places we’d use for Middleton walks. There’s good woodland close by, which suits dogs who prefer fewer distractions, and more room further out for dogs who love to explore. James picks the place to suit your dog.

01

Alkrington Woods

Over 120 acres of mature woodland in Rhodes, once part of the Alkrington Hall estate, with the River Irk along its lower edge.

02

Hopwood Woods

Peaceful woodland off Rochdale Road in Hopwood, with informal paths and plenty of birds. Good for dogs who prefer fewer distractions.

03

Jubilee Park

A Green Flag park on New Lane in the town’s conservation area, between the library and St Leonard’s Church. Good for a steady half-hour.

04

Tandle Hill Country Park

About 110 acres of beech woodland and open grass on the edge of Royton, with a steep climb to wide views. Room for a longer walk.

05

Rochdale Canal

Flat towpath walking from Mills Hill. An easy, level walk for older dogs or a steady half-hour.

Where we walk depends on your dog and the conditions on the day.
