Where we might walk
A few of the green spaces we’d use for Bury walks. James picks the place to suit your dog: quieter woodland for nervous dogs, more room for dogs who love to explore.
Riverside paths, woodland and meadows along the River Irwell, about a mile north-west of Bury town centre. Room for a longer walk.
Bury’s largest town park, on Walmersley Road, with a lake and plenty of open grass. Good for a steady half-hour.
A local nature reserve of small woods and meadows on the edge of Bury, reached from Clarence Park. Quieter paths for dogs who prefer fewer distractions.
A nature reserve between Brandlesholme and Tottington, with the flat Kirklees Trail along an old railway line.
An easy circuit of about a mile and a half around the water, south-west of the town centre. Muddy after rain.
Where we walk depends on your dog and the conditions on the day.
